How to generically refer to the AppData folder on the Windows command line?

In the example linked issue above, it is mentioned that EL8 based hosts have an older platform-python Python version1 which is not compatible with Ansible 2.17’s module code. It was added to avoid confusing existing tools that analyzed import statements and expected to find the modules they’re importing. It was added in version 2.1 so import of __future__ will fail if used prior to version 2.1. There are some great answers already, but none of them address a complete list of what the __future__ statement currently supports.

This answer was inspired by future value of a single amount both of their answers, so kudos to them. While traditionally most Windows programs install to Program Files, some will install to %AppData% instead. This includes apps like Gitter Discord, f.lux, and yes, GitHub Desktop for Windows. As others explained, these are environmental variables which can be listed at the Windows command prompt using the SET command.

In Python 2.7, I wanted chars from different print statements to be printed on same line without spaces. A few answers regarding the basic usage of __future__ I’ve received seemed correct. Find centralized, trusted content and collaborate around the technologies you use most.

Infer the objects’ type with infer_objects

The future statement is intended to ease migration to future versions of Python that introduce incompatible changes to the language. It allows use of the new features on a per-module basis before the release in which the feature becomes standard. If you want to build your own CMD script, this might be unreliable IF you set the wallpaper not from Windows but from an external program. For example, if I see a nice image in my browser, I set it as wallpaper directly from there. I can easily name another 10 popular programs that could change the wallpaper to a custom path.

  • (e.g. Try Ansible 2.16 instead if using 2.17 as in the example related issue above).

  • When I tried using it, I received the error “The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect”.
  • Setting pandas.set_option(“future.no_silent_downcasting”, True) seems to work to remove the warning too, but I don’t know if this is the correct behavior (as also pointed out by @mrgou in the comments).
  • By searching I found out about %UserProfile% that perhaps refer to the current username, but it does not really work.

These two are predefined paths that vary by Windows edition. Probably, casting the dtype of series into boolean by .convert_dtypes() suppresses the warning because downcasting from object into boolean is not executed implicitly, but done explicitly. Setting pandas.set_option(“future.no_silent_downcasting”, True) seems to work to remove the warning too, but I don’t know if this is the correct behavior (as also pointed out by @mrgou in the comments). Here a simple example using an atomic bool to cancel one or multiple future at the same time.

However, the features are available only by using __future__ because they are not the current standard. VS Code, after it released its limited user version, pushes it as the recommended choice, which considering it is a Microsoft product, speaks to the acceptability of this method. Google Chrome also has a limited user install mode, just to name another prominent program that offers this. Anyway, you can use a program like Everything Search Engine to find the path where your pinned programs are stored in your PC. By searching I found out about %UserProfile% that perhaps refer to the current username, but it does not really work. When I tried using it, I received the error “The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect”.

A complete list of “%%” relative paths/variables in Windows Explorer in Windows 10?

This folder contains user specific, program related data, or even the programs themselves. In cases like this, it’s best to have avoided the issue entirely by not using macOS’s Ansible + Python.framework versions (This also applies to Homebrew, because brew’s packages are rolling-release). This introduces change that can break things relying on Ansible’s past behavior.

  • If so, try downgrading the version of Ansible you are using on your control host.
  • A copy of the current wallpaper can be found by entering one of the below paths in Windows File Explorer address bar.
  • The atomic bool may be wrapped inside a Cancellation class (depending on taste).
  • There are legitmant reasons to install an application to a directory within %LocalAppData.

I don’t believe John is right about where apps MUST install. The directory the executable for an application should exist in entirely depends on the permissions of the user running the application. There are legitmant reasons to install an application to a directory within %LocalAppData.

The logic is that a program that can run entirely within the much more limited rights of a limited, non-admin user accounts profile and its stricter limitations will, by nature, be much safer application. Note that some programs are changing the wallpaper without actually writing a file to disk. This can be done by hooking to the Microsoft Windows Desktop window and drawing directly on its canvas. A copy of the current wallpaper can be found by entering one of the below paths in Windows File Explorer address bar. I just want to add a list to default environment variables of Windows 10, so others can have more resources to learn.

If so, try downgrading the version of Ansible you are using on your control host. (e.g. Try Ansible 2.16 instead if using 2.17 as in the example related issue above). If valid() is false before the call to this function, the behavior is undefined.

future value of a single amount

The atomic bool may be wrapped inside a Cancellation class (depending on taste). Running which ansible or which ansible-playbook should now point to the ones under your current venv. It could be that the playbook or module needs to be using False in some place instead of false.

Both answers from @mokubai and @ramhound are useful and basically they are the same just one use command prompt and the other uses PowerShell. The arrays are of the type object and, when you call fillna, it tries to infer the objects’ type which issues this warning. After Python 3.0 onward, print is no longer just a statement, its a function instead.

One other use not mentioned above is that the __future__ statement also requires the use of Python 2.1+ interpreters since using an older version will throw a runtime exception. Forces the use of Python 3 parenthesis-style print() function call instead of the print MESSAGE style statement. The from __future__ import division directive forces the use of Python 3.0 style division. The from __future__ import nested_scopes directive will allow for this feature to be enabled.
